This is an assignment for environmental design; the project must include different way-finding elements in an event.
Context: A Tame Impala Concert in a Colosseum, at Burning Man, during fall.
Story: Tame Impala is playing a song picked from a fan who won an online raffle contest. The song is picked from one of their recent albums: Currents. The song that they chose is called New Person, Same Old Mistakes. The overall aesthetic of Tame Impala and their songs are visually trippy and psychedelic. I will be creating the wayfinding design that will help their fans find their way through the concert, leading to the band and Kevin Parker's beautiful voice. Surprisingly enough, this lucky fan is the Nigerian prince whose willing to pay for all the expenses he's attained from the immense fortunes that his family passed down to him. So, without any limits on their concert, the band's ambitious plans began. Through proxy of the prince, the band would pay the travel costs of fans (except for the cost of admission) across the globe. A surge of different and diverse people would come to Black Rock City, Nevada, in October 2020 to see their favorite band play right in front of them.
Direction —> The concert will take place in a large, concrete reconstructed version of the Flavian Amphitheater (aka Colosseum for you non-art historian nerds) during Burning Man. The colosseum will have 4 gates that open to the center of the concert. The stage where the band plays is located at the epicenter. The interior space is already in line with the aesthetics. The concert and stage design is already created. One thing to note is that the stage will use trippy strobe lights and led effects when the band starts to play (like in their usual concerts). I am tasked with the wayfinding because the other designer in charge of it coughed very loudly (without a mask, mind you) in front of the Tame Impala security guards. Suspecting he has the C O O F, he was promptly "taken care of
Focus —> Knowing that the wayfinding system is lacking, I will design a visually cohesive, understandable, and connected wayfinding system. Illustrations will be a key feature, the splashy design, shown below, will create textural cohesiveness, and icons/pictograms will be appropriately made. There will be an influx of diverse people (non-English speaking), so exceptionally designed, well-understood icons are important. I should also make a note of the fact that the band will be playing in October in the cool Nevada desert at 8 pm; LED will need to be taken into consideration."
